Moisturized and Unbothered
A love letter to the soft life Black women are choosing for themselves
Let me tell you something: struggle is not a superpower.
Somewhere along the way, we got sold the myth that the Black girl who’s been through the most wins some kind of invisible crown. That the prize for surviving is… more surviving. That “strong” means “never resting,” “never asking,” “never receiving.”
But here’s the truth they don’t put on inspirational quote mugs:
There are no trophies for exhaustion. No extra credit for making life harder than it has to be. No parade for running on fumes.
And honestly? I’m done with it.
The soft life is not a trend—it’s a reclamation.
When I talk about soft life, I don’t mean luxury handbags and passport stamps only for the ‘gram (although, let’s be clear, I’m not mad at either).
I mean making rest your baseline, not your reward.
I mean being loved out loud, without apology or performance.
I mean building a life where joy is not an afterthought—it’s the soundtrack.
Ciara. Tracee Ellis Ross. Eve.
Three Black women who have publicly shifted from grind-at-all-costs to grace-on-purpose. Ciara—living her love story, raising her babies, dancing into the next chapter. Tracee—showing us that single, child-free, and thriving is a whole vibe. Eve—walking away from the mic, crossing oceans, building her family, and still glowing.
They remind us:
It’s okay to say no to what drains you.
It’s okay to be cared for.
It’s okay to choose peace over proving yourself.
Your softness is not weakness—it’s wealth.
The world already knows how strong you are.
Your softness is the part they told you to hide. The part that makes you radiant, whole, human.
So go ahead and:
Book the trip.
Sleep in.
Moisturize your spirit like you moisturize your skin.
Laugh until your stomach hurts.
Love in a way that feels like home, not like war.
Soft Girl Mantra
I do not earn my worth through struggle. My joy is enough.
I choose peace over proving myself.
Rest is my birthright. Love is my baseline.
I am worthy of care, softness, and ease.
I am moisturized, unbothered, and magnetic.
Because we are not here to survive the Black girl Olympics of suffering.
We are here to be moisturized, unbothered, and free.
Question for you: What’s one soft life decision you’ve made this year?
